EducatingJane.com - EducatingJane.com is a national site for girls, educators, and parents of girls. They are dedicated to educating girls. This site is a great resource for girls and their parents. www.educatingjane.com

Girl Scouts of America - Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls where, in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world. To find a group near you and to find out how Girl Scouts of America is changing with the times. www.girlscouts.org

Girls Inc - Girls Incorporated is a national nonprofit youth organization dedicated to inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold. It advocates for girls and includes a Girls' Bill of Rights on its website. There are local Girls Inc. groups in most of the 50 states. www.girlsinc.com

Girls on the Run - Girls on the Run is a non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. www.girlsontherun.org

Music Together - Music Together is an internationally recognized early childhood music program for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love them. This program is perfect to help develop basic music skills in young children. This website features a class locator. www.musictogether.com

Zoey's Room - Zoey's Room is a safe online community for middle school girls (10-14) which encourages creativity through science, technology, engineering and math. Started as a local venture in Maine, in has now been embraced by national organizations such as YWCA. It does cost $20 to join Zoey's Room but scholarships are available to those who qualify. www.zoeysroom.com

Chicagoland Area

Chicago Girls Coalition: Sister's Empowering Sisters, Chicago, IL - Sisters Empowering Sisters (SES) is a grantmaking and social change program for young women in the Chicago area between the ages of 14 and 18. SES puts decision-making power and the power to create change directly in the hands of young women. Teen girls can apply for a one-time grant of up to $3000 to work on a project that will positively impact one of the communities in the Chicagoland area. Girls work with adult allies that help support their girl-driven projects. www.chicagogirlscoalition.org

Language Stars, Chicago area, multiple locations this program offers an immersion approach to foreign language instruction utilizing children's natural window of opportunity to teach language naturally. This website includes a class locator. www.languagestars.com

Northwestern University Center for Talent Development, Evanston, IL - This program offers academic enrichment and accelerated learning for gifted children from pre-school to high school age students on Saturdays, during the summer and also through distance learning. www.ctd.northwestern.edu

Old Town School of Folk Music, Lincoln Park, IL - This Chicago institution has been around for 50 years. It started out teaching kids how to play banjo and guitar, and later, began giving concerts for the community. Now the center offers dance, art, and theater classes as well as music lessons. It also offers the popular Wiggleworms program for parents and babies at a variety of locations. www.oldtownschool.org

Starland Creativity Center, Deerfield, IL - North Shore's Premier Creativity Center from ages 0-13 years of age, Starland offers classes for parents and babies, offers art, dance, drama, music and computer classes for older kids and also puts on theatrical productions. Starland offers summer camp for budding artists and older kids too. www.starlandkids.com

Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago, Chicago, IL - The Young Women's Leadership Charter School of Chicago is the only all-girls public school in the city. Its charter is based on the belief that a single-sex school for young women in the public schools can prevent the disengagement from math, science and technology that often takes place as girls enter adolescence. YWLCS is open, by lottery, to any girl in the city of Chicago. Now in its sixth academic year they currently serve 340 students in grades 7-12. Students come from 30 racially and economically diverse communities in Chicago www.ywlcs.org

New York

The Young Women's Leadership School of East Harlem (TYWLS) - This girls school (grades 7-12) was established in 1996. It was the first all-girls public school to open in the nation in at least twenty-five years. It was designed to serve inner city young women who were not thriving in their previous school environments and did not have access to the many choices and resources of more privileged areas. www.ywlfoundation.org

Texas

Ann Richard's School for Young Women Leaders, Austin, TX - This college-prep school for girls (grades 6-12) will open its doors in fall 2007 with a curriculum that emphasizes science, math, wellness and leadership skills. At least 75% of the school's students will come from disadvantaged backgrounds. The school was developed by a partnership between the Foundation for the Education of Young Women, the Austin Independent School District and an advisory board. This school was a project of the late Ann Richards, former governor of Texas, who was directly involved in the planning and development of this school. www.annrichardsschool.org

Girlstart - Girlstart is a non-profit organization created to empower girls to excel in math, science, and technology. They offer after-school, Saturday and summer programs for girls in the Austin, TX area. www.girlstart.org
